Fumble Agility Drill
Setup
A player and a coach face each other, about three yards apart. The coach holds two footballs.
Purpose
Work on the ability for players to quickly react to the football, develop smooth agility skills, and efficient recovery skills in picking up a fumbled football.
Drill Description
A player steps up to the drill in an athletic stance facing the coach. The coach roles the first football about five yards to the side of the player.
The player must quickly shuffle to get in front of and pick up the football.
As soon as the player picks up the first football, the coach then roles the second football faster and further than the first football.
The player scoops up the first football, tosses it back to the coach, and then turns and sprints to scoop up and recover the second football.
The next player rotates in, and players repeatedly cycle through the drill.
