Somersault Drill
Setup
Clear out 20 yards of space for the drill participants to run down the field.
Purpose
The somersault drill is used to get players accustomed to contact with the ground while controlling their body in a low position throughout the course of this conditioning drill.
Drill Description
Players begin running forward and execute a full somersault every five yards.
The somersaults teach players to control their body and how to get low to the ground while maintaining precision in the way they manipulate their body. Each time they pop off of the ground, players should quickly recover and accelerate with powerful steps upon regaining their footing.
After the third somersault, players sprint through the final 5 yards to complete one repetition of the drill.
