Trap Block Drill
Two offensive lineman line up across from to players holding blocking pads where the defensive lineman would line up.
The trap block requires precise footwork and perfectly synced timing in order to successfully accomplish the intended blocks. This drill focuses the blockers’ attention on the football and specific timing needed to properly perform the trap block.
The center snaps the ball and the players perform the necessary steps needed to execute the trap block. The first blocker explodes out into his assigned block.
The most important step is the first step of the short pulling lineman. That lineman must take a quick step to open up and get around his teammate in order to reach himself around and get to where he needs to be to complete the trap block.
Multiple repetitions are useful to ingrain the muscle memory and timing needed to make the footwork and timing second nature for the trap block.
