Catch and Twist Drill
Setup
Place two cones fifteen yards apart and position a quarterback or coach ten yards away to throw the ball to the drill participants.
Purpose
This drill teaches players how to use the proper technique when catching a ball that is thrown behind them.
Drill Description
Player run half speed horizontally across the field. The thrower purposely throws a bad throw behind the receiver.
To catch the pass players should twist themselves around backward so that their momentum doesn’t tear them away from the ball. As they twist backward to catch the ball, they procure the catch, and then continue the spin, making a complete 360 in order to successfully make the catch and stay on their feet.
